What inspired me to start the managernotes newsletter?
The spark that ignited the creation of ManagerNotes was born from a pivotal moment in my professional journey. Picture this: I had just transitioned from the realm of a software engineer to the uncharted territories of a team lead. The promotion brought excitement, but it cast me into the sea of leadership without guidance on what it truly meant to lead.
I was left at the crossroads of newfound responsibilities, yearning for a compass to guide me through the intricate leadership landscape. Yet, the compass remained elusive, and the path ahead seemed uncertain. The realization hit hard – if I were to navigate this path, I would have to forge it myself.
And so, my quest began. I embarked on a journey through the vast expanse of the Internet, scouring blogs, books, tweets, podcasts, videos, and every corner that held the collective wisdom of managers who had walked this path before me. I found solace in the notes, quotes, and shared experiences that others had generously shared, their insights lighting the way as I ventured forward.
Then came the turning point – two books that would forever alter my perspective. "NVC (Nonviolent Communication)" by Marshall Rosenberg illuminated the profound purpose of our lives – a purpose intricately woven into enriching the lives of others, creating a tapestry of meaning and impact. "Show Your Work!" by Austin Kleon championed sharing one's journey, knowing that in doing so, one might inadvertently inspire and assist another soul.
These books struck a chord deep within me. Their wisdom resonated, and I realized the significance of consuming knowledge and sharing it. The lessons I'd learned, the insights I'd gathered – they held potential far beyond my personal growth. They could transform, uplift, and empower others on their journeys.
With this epiphany, the vision for ManagerNotes was born. I resolved to unfurl the treasure trove of knowledge I'd accumulated over the years to showcase the destination and path.

What inspired me to start the Leaders Anywhere newsletter?
I found my purpose amid uncertainty in a world reshaped by the unexpected, where challenges rose like titanic waves. The genesis of the Leaders Anywhere newsletter was none other than the formidable force of COVID-19.
As the pandemic unfurled its grip in 2019, a new reality demanded adaptation, and for leaders, this meant mastering the art of managing and leading teams across the sprawling tapestry of the global landscape. Those times were rugged, a relentless journey through uncharted territories, yet they were fertile grounds for growth.
The challenges magnified as remote work took center stage, erasing geographical boundaries and redefining the essence of teamwork. Amidst the turbulence, I found my stride. With every hurdle overcome and every connection forged through pixels and screens, I realized something profound – the geography of work was no longer about physical borders but about embracing the nuances of remote collaboration.
It was a revelation that echoed in every digital interaction and every project spanning time zones. As I navigated this new paradigm, I recognized its potential as a response to a crisis and a transformative shift in work culture itself.
By the close of 2022, a report emerged ranking the top 50 influencers and enablers of remote work. Amidst the accolades, a poignant absence caught my eye – a void in representation, a silence where an Arab influencer should have been. The realization hit hard. A powerful global movement was at hand, reshaping workplaces and redefining success, yet the voices from my region remained unheard.
At that moment, the vision crystallized. It wasn't just about sending emails or writing articles; it was about championing a narrative, breaking barriers, and opening doors to a new way of work that transcends time zones and welcomes diversity. I was driven by a simple truth: the power of remote work isn't limited to surviving a crisis; it's about thriving in a future that values outcomes over appearances, collaboration over commutes, and inclusion over isolation.
